Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

This is no silly or "bad" question, please feel free to ask anything you can think of. I am here to support you in your journey to feeding your baby.

What’s your service area?

I have an office in Hermosa Beach, California. In home consultations are available within a 15 mile drive from Hermosa Beach. If you are outside of the 15 mile radius, please contact me as travel is a possibility depending on your location. There will be additional fees for travel. I am also available for FaceTime, Skype, Zoom and phone consultations any where in the world.

What are your hours?

Babies are not the best at following schedules. We will work together to find the best time for consultations, coordinating around your little one's prime feeding times. If you schedule a consultation and you think baby will want to feed a little before the scheduled time, please let me know as soon as possible as we can some times accommodate that.

How are you handling in person visits with COVID?

I am fully vaccinated. I am taking extreme precautions to ensure the health and safety of you and your baby. I have a limited number of appointments per day to ensure adequate time between appointments for sanitization. I ask that all adults wear a mask and be fever and symptom free in the 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. If you schedule an office visit, limit one additional support person to ensure appropriate social distancing. In the office, the couches/chairs and baby scale will be covered with disposable medical exam table paper. I wash my hands frequently and change my gloves often during our appointment.

What if you're not available when my baby needs seen?

If you are having a true lactation emergency and do not see a time available on my schedule, please text me directly to see if I can fit you in. If I am absolutely not available, I have a list of reputable IBCLCs in the area who I've personally met and trust their skills and competence. I can send you a list of names and contact information to make sure you are seen ASAP.

Do you take insurance?

According to the ACA, lactation services are to be covered by insurance at 100%. While you are asked to pay for your consultation at the time of booking, I can provide a superbill which you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. You are responsible for contacting your insurance company ahead of time to see what you need for submission. I can provide you with all of my practice information (Tax ID, license number, etc.) to ensure the highest possible reimbursement rate.

I am now contracted with Lactation Network! The Lactation Network guarantees every mother three 90 minute lactation consultations with a registered IBCLC, like me, at no out of pocket cost. They handle the paperwork and bill your insurance directly. To learn more and schedule a consultation with me, visit www.lactationnetwork.com and use my name, Julie Matheney, as the IBCLC who referred you. When you are approved, please notify me by text or email and I will send you a private link to schedule your appointment.
