Julie Matheney, MS, CCC-SLP/CLEC/IBCLC

When I was 10 years old I told my mom I wanted to feed babies for a living. I became a speech pathologist because the same things you speak with, you eat with. I’ve been a speech pathologist in a hospital for over a decade with a specialty in feeding and swallowing disorders. In working in the NICU setting, I realized I wanted a more intimate approach to working alongside families as they worked to feed their babies. I became a board certified lactation consultant and have really fallen in love with what I do. There’s nothing better than empowering families to reach their feeding goals, wherever they are in their journey. Speech pathology has given me a unique lens for approaching breastfeeding and I’m grateful or my unique journey into working with breastfeeding families.

I started with the 90 credit hour program through Lactation Education Resources to become a CLC. I work part time as an SLP in acute and NICU. I then took the 45 credit hour course to be CLEC through UC San Diego. They brought Virginia Baker to my hospital in Los Angeles to teach the course live which was awesome. I was then hired by my same hospital to work per diem as a CLC to help me get my hours with the expectation to be able to sit for the IBCLE exam. I was able to sit under pathway 1 since breastfeeding was a large part of my role as SLP in NICU and in postpartum as a CLC. It took me the full five years to get all my hours and coursework done.

Evelyn Cholakians, MA, IBCLC

My name is Evelyn and supporting mothers and babies is my soul's work. I come from a background where I've straddled worlds between the 'hard' sciences (clinical research in fields like infectious disease and oncology) and the study of evolved human behavior (I am an evolutionary anthropologist who did fieldwork in the Amazon).
Working with me, you'll dance between the lines of scientific evidence-based practices and learning to trust your own primal intuition as a mother. I take an integrative, whole-dyad, and whole-family approach to my practice and look forward to supporting you during this sacred journey.
I am passionate about: Prenatal Education & Colostrum Harvesting, Oral Ties & Functional Assessments, Tandem Nursing, Biologically Normal Infant Feeding Behavior, Maternal Health, Evidence-Based Care, Mother-Infant Bonding, Pumping & Supply, The Fourth Trimester and Maternal Nourishment

Lorena Creamer, IBCLC

I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) based in Los Angeles, California. Born and raised in Mexico City, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. As a mother, I faced my own breastfeeding challenges when my daughter had a tongue tie, which sparked my passion for helping other families navigate similar difficulties. I have a special interest in tongue ties, infant tension, and maternal mental health. I approach my work with a focus on evidence-based care with compassion to ensure families feel empowered and supported. Currently, I am deepening my knowledge through the Master Class in oral habilitation and exploring food reactivity in infants. A fun fact about me is that I fulfilled one of my passions by traveling the world as a flight attendant, which gave me the opportunity to experience different cultures and their approaches to infant feeding practices. I offer services in both English and Spanish.

Katharine Whetzel, IBCLC, CFT, TOTS certified, Doula

Katharine works as a IBCLC and full spectrum doula on the Eastside of Los Angeles. She became a doula in 2020 to better serve her community through educating, encouraging, and advocating for birthing people and their families. When working with families as a doula, Katharine witnessed first hand the impact infant feeding has on the mental health of the lactating parent. After becoming a parent herself, she chose to become an IBCLC to better support her clients as they navigate their new roles as parents. Katharine enjoys supporting families in identifying their own goals and collaborating to create a plan to reach them. Katharine is also a babywearing consultant, yoga teacher, and childbirth educator.

Melissa Tsoi Cheng, IBCLC

My name is Melissa Cheng (she/her/hers), and I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant based in Torrance, CA serving the South Bay and surrounding areas. I studied human lactation through the BreastfeedLA Lactation Education Program and completed my clinical training at UCLA Santa Monica Hospital, in both in-patient and out-patient settings. As a first generation Chinese-American and a parent who struggled physically and emotionally with breastfeeding, I understand the importance of unbiased support as you navigate feeding challenges and the transition into parenthood. Breast/chestfeeding may be a “natural” way to feed your baby, but I know it may not always be intuitive and doesn’t always happen naturally for many parents. My aim is to offer both practical and emotional support, delivering comprehensive, evidence-based information to help you achieve your breast/chestfeeding goals and find joy in your own unique experience.

Jamie Glassford, IBCLC

As a mother of two, yoga instructor & international board certified lactation consultant, I am passionate about supporting parents to achieve their breastfeeding goals through education, personalized support and guidance. Having faced my own challenges with milk supply and tethered oral ties with my children, I truly understand how tough breastfeeding can be. My personal experiences led me to pursue a career in lactation, where I could provide nonjudgmental, evidence-based guidance to others. I love supporting mothers and their families as they embrace new roles in life and build trust in their bodies and mastering the process of breastfeeding babies/pumping human milk.
My goal is to listen with respect and work alongside families to achieve the best health outcomes for both mother and baby.

Camille Toussaint, IBCLC

Born and raised in France, Camille moved to the United States at 25 to work with a boutique events and marketing agency. There, she successfully produced hundreds of events and campaigns, honing her problem-solving skills and adapting her communication style to connect effectively with various collaborators.

The turning point in her career came when her third son was born prematurely. Spending time in the NICU sparked a desire to pursue a career that aligned with her core values of motherhood, health, and helping others. As a nursing mother to her three boys, Camille found immense fulfillment in the journey and gained valuable insights that deepened her understanding of infant feeding and the challenges of early parenthood. This experience allows her to empathize deeply with families, especially mothers, making her a compassionate and effective support for new parents. After receiving training in a hospital setting, attending school, and being mentored by exceptional lactation consultants, she committed to becoming an IBCLC.

Angelica Kelly, RN, IBCLC

Angie Benitez has been working with breastfeeding mothers since 2001. She has held the credential as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2011 and completed her training through the University of California San Diego Extension program. She has varied experience working for WIC (Women, Infant, Children), in multiple hospital settings in the mother/baby unit, NICU, pediatric clinics and now private practice. Also, she had the opportunity to work with a team of doctors and residents and travel to Panama to teach staff, nurses and medical students on Breastfeeding Basics.

Her gentle and empathic approach stems from her own personal experiences. Angie is the mother to two adult children. She struggled with breastfeeding, having one of her babies spend time in the NICU, during which she had minimal family support. Which later led to the opportunity of wanting to help other moms on their breastfeeding journeys.

Angie is originally from Los Angeles, California. She enjoys spending time with her kids and traveling.
