How Insurance Coverage Works for Lactation Services

Most insurance plans do not require pre-authorization or referrals for lactation services because lactation care is considered preventive primary care.

Step 1:

Check to see if you have an eligible insurance plan in the list below.

Step 2:

If your plan is on the list, schedule an appointment now.

If your plan is not on the list please mail Lactation Consultants of America to ask about other plans not on the list: Patient.relations@lcsofamerica.com

Step 3:

Once your appointment is booked, you will receive an email from Lactation Consultants of America with intake paperwork. This must be completed prior to being seen. Your insurance will be verified within 24 hours of receiving the completed paperwork. Your appointment is not confirmed until the paperwork is complete.

Unless noted below, few plans require pre-authorization or referrals as Lactation is Preventative Primary Care. Insurance representatives commonly give enrollees incorrect information regarding coverage and requirements.

We do NOT accept Medicare plans currently and only accept Medicaid plans in CA at this time. For plans that require benefits checked, please allow 24 business hours for a response from LCA.
Once your appointment is booked, you will receive an email from Lactation Consultants of America with intake paperwork. This must be completed prior to being seen.

Your insurance will be verified within 24 hours of receiving the completed paperwork. If your insurance is not in network, you will be responsible for paying for your appointment in cash. The following plans are usually covered. If you have any questions, email prior to being seen to check on your benefits.
